Part 1. The KW ELT mobile app (self-study)

The KW ELT app for iPhone and Android is a self-study English course. It works without an account: you do not register, and we do not ask for your name, e-mail or phone number.

What stays on your device

• Your progress — completed lessons, answers, stars, streak, badges, your own word cards and settings — is stored only on your device. It is not sent to us and we cannot see it.
• Deleting the app deletes this data. You can also erase it at any time in the app: Settings → “Сбросить прогресс” or “Удалить мои данные”.

Microphone and speech

• The microphone is used only in “say it aloud” tasks, and only after you allow it.
• On iPhone, speech is recognised on the device by Apple’s built-in speech recognition. The recording is not sent to us and is not saved.
• On Android, speech is recognised by the speech service of your device (usually Google), offline when the device supports it. We do not receive or store the recording. Processing by that service is governed by its own privacy policy.

Notifications

If you allow them, the app shows study reminders at the time you chose. They are scheduled on the device; we do not send push messages from a server.

Purchases

Subscriptions are bought through the Apple App Store (and, when available, Google Play). The store processes the payment; we never receive your card details. The app only checks on the device whether a subscription is active.

What leaves your device

Lesson audio, pictures and video are downloaded from our media storage at Cloudflare. As with any download, Cloudflare technically sees your IP address and the time of the request. These logs are not linked to your progress or identity. If you use the chat, the conversation text is sent as well — see Chat with Liz and Ken.

Chat with Liz and Ken (AI)

• The chat is optional; lessons work without it. Before your first chat the app asks for your consent.
• When you write in the chat, the app sends to our server (kw-elt.com, then Cloudflare Workers): the text of this conversation (the characters’ lines and your messages), the chosen chat topic, the conversation goals already reached, short notes the chat itself keeps during the conversation (for example, the food you said you like), the app language and a random install ID created by the app. No name, e-mail, phone number, account or device identifiers are sent. “Удалить мои данные” (Delete my data) creates a new install ID.
• Help requests (“Hint”, “how do I say…”, “Not that, I meant something else”) and the text of your own chat topic are sent the same way. Your own topic is checked for personal data and unsafe content.
• The server forwards the text to Google’s Gemini model via Google Cloud Vertex AI (paid service) to check your English and write the replies, and returns the answer to the app. If Google does not answer, the same request may be sent to the same Gemini model via OpenRouter, Inc., excluding providers that collect request data.
• We do not store your conversations. Our server does not save or log message text. It keeps only daily counters for limits: messages sent today by an install ID, a one-way hash of the IP address salted with the date, and the total number of messages. Counters older than two days are deleted. The app does not keep the conversation after you close the chat — only the words you chose to add to review.
• Under Google Cloud terms, Google does not use this data to train models without the customer’s permission; it caches inputs and outputs in memory for up to 24 hours and may log prompts for a limited time to detect abuse. OpenRouter (fallback only) does not store prompts or responses unless the account owner opts in (we have not).
• Rude words and profanity are filtered on our server and are not sent to the model.
• Reports: we only count reports per chat scenario; the reported text is not sent.
• Please do not write personal data in the chat (surname, phone, address, documents). Chat replies and explanations are written by AI and may contain mistakes.

What the app does not do

• No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
• No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
• No access to your contacts, photos or location.
• We do not sell or share personal data; chat text is shared with the AI service only to get a reply.

Age

The app is intended for adults and teenagers aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13.

Part 2. The kw-elt.com learning platform (live classes)

KW ELT ("we") operates the kw-elt.com learning platform and the KW-ELT mobile applications. This policy explains what personal data we collect and how we use it.

What we collect

• Account data: name, e-mail address, and, when you provide them, phone number and messenger handles (Telegram/WhatsApp/MAX/other messengers) — used to create your student account and contact you about lessons.
• Learning data: lesson progress, homework answers, quiz results and practice recordings you submit (e.g. pronunciation audio) — used to teach you and show your progress to you and your teacher.
• Technical data: basic logs (IP address, time of access) kept for security and troubleshooting.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers.
• We do not show ads and do not use third-party ad or tracking SDKs in the apps.

Third-party services we rely on

• Zoom — live classes; class recordings may be stored so absent students can catch up.
• Telegram / WhatsApp / MAX / other messenger bots — lesson reminders and our news, only after you connect them; reply STOP to opt out of news at any time.
• Resend — transactional e-mail (password reset, welcome letters).
• Cloudflare — content delivery and media storage.
• Google Tag Manager & Google Analytics — anonymous website statistics (which pages are opened, where visitors come from) so we can improve the site. No lesson content, homework or messages ever reach them.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. To have your account and personal data deleted, write to us at hello@kw-elt.com — we will remove it within 30 days, except records we must keep by law.

Children

Students under 18 study with parental consent; a parent or guardian manages the relationship with the teacher and can request access to or deletion of the child's data at any time.
